Josh and Jordan, I hope that you enjoy this portrait of "The First Dance" as Mr. and Mrs. Raynor. You had a beautiful wedding and your reception was a lovely magical night full of celebrating the beginning of your new journey together. When I saw the two of you dancing, I knew right then what I wanted to do for the two of you. May your life together be filled with beautiful colors.cardinalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03918831079129066876noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8425529241111399253.post-77653096616215672072012-04-21T13:40:00.001-04:002012-04-21T15:48:29.225-04:00Wam Squam<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So why has it been almost three months since my last post? I've been at my trusty easel working on commissions, hopefully soon I'll be caught up and will post them. Here's one painting that I finished just last week, and oh it brings so many memories. The Wam Squam was quite the hot spot for our little White Lake community and for the seasonal tourists. I feel like it helped bring up my boys, I would stop there many times for breakfast and gas before going to school, we loved their sausage and ham biscuits! <br />
The Wam Squam, which means "white water" was a major White Lake landmark, I can't remember how many times I gavc directions and used "turn right at the Wam Squam". A wonderful place to catch up on the latest gossip and get ice cream and candy.<br />
Oh Wam Squam I miss you, you will always have a place in my heart!cardinalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03918831079129066876noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8425529241111399253.post-36718817291731902532012-02-16T16:33:00.000-05:002012-02-16T16:33:09.136-05:00February 16, 2012<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Rain and cold weather prevented me from painting <em>en plein air</em> today so I attempted painting <strong>alla prima</strong>, Italian for "first attempt" or wet-on-wet. This painting technique requires the artist to paint layers of wet paint over layers of wet paint and it dates back to the Impressionists period. Monet and Van Gogh were known for their "on the spot" painting, usually finishing a painting in one sitting. "I Love You" is a painting I started this morning, painting very quickly, in the warmth of my home studio. The subject (very popular at this time of the year) was painted from the dozen red roses my husband gave me for Valentine's Day.</div>cardinalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03918831079129066876noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8425529241111399253.post-74281118906689115172012-01-21T13:11:00.000-05:002012-01-21T13:11:12.536-05:00"Happy Valentine's Day"<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This Valentine's Day I am offering a series of hand-painted Valentine cards for your sweetheart. These high quality fine Strathmore cards have deckled edges and come with white envelopes, they measure 5"x7" and can be given as a card, then framed if desired.<br />
Crystal fluorescent pinks, roses and reds are accented with white ink and silver foil. No two cards are identical.<br />

"Rudolph's Woodland Friend" is my favorite in Kathy's 2011 Reindeer Collection. I was inspired to paint this sweet friend from a special ornament I purchased a few months ago. He would be lovely displayed all winter long on a shelf, counter, or he is also easily framed. Standard size canvas panel is 5"x7".cardinalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03918831079129066876noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8425529241111399253.post-87699842686506878562011-12-10T13:47:00.001-05:002011-12-10T13:51:58.163-05:00December 9, 2011<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I was thrilled when her daughter, Michelle commissioned a painting of her mom as a mermaid.....those of you who know me, know how I feel about mermaids! Well, to paint my bff as a mermaid? It doesn't get better than that! Quickly I started looking at all the photos of Sandy to find just the right one! Bingo! This photograph was taken at a little Wine Cafe in Hope Mills that we enjoy visiting from time to time.<br />
I placed Sandy in the water like she was casually reading a book and soaking up some waves, look closely at the title of the book. Sandy has a way of telling or describing information prefaced with "this is the deal", so of course, I titled the painting "The Deal".<br />
Happy Birthday to my bff Sandy, from your daughter, Michelle.......we both love you!cardinalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03918831079129066876noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8425529241111399253.post-62635231966651427462011-09-27T06:42:00.000-04:002011-09-27T06:42:24.883-04:00September 27, 2011<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Alex's wedding gift to Danielle was a painted album commissioned from me titled "Our Story " which expressed 5 significant events in their lives. A sentimental gift is what Alex wanted to give to his new wife. I wanted to share a few of the pages in the album that express this special love between the two newlyweds from when they first met at the Sandwich Shop at White Lake to when Alex got down on his knees and proposed to Danielle in Central Park, NYC<br />
. Congratulations and Best Wishes to Alex and Danielle as they begin their life together.cardinalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03918831079129066876noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8425529241111399253.post-83452620443287356302011-08-29T04:19:00.000-04:002011-08-29T04:19:05.834-04:00August 29, 2011<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1v7HqGyDT8863m9EfbFt8fvQh7xw9MZh-b4rc0AngZxCRDbzOxhnZOOt4zouyKG6JmAfZxprHmb411hJEte-Rn9xg2XGQQq5aPjC3EkeYqz2yN3u-r8XOO32A83hlpouoyxf-VznT1tBJ/s1600/516+West+Duke+Circle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1v7HqGyDT8863m9EfbFt8fvQh7xw9MZh-b4rc0AngZxCRDbzOxhnZOOt4zouyKG6JmAfZxprHmb411hJEte-Rn9xg2XGQQq5aPjC3EkeYqz2yN3u-r8XOO32A83hlpouoyxf-VznT1tBJ/s320/516+West+Duke+Circle.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> "516 West Duke Circle" was my mother and father-in-law's address until 1999 when Hurricane Floyd left flooding in the Rocky Mount area. The flood took everything, they painfully lost their loving home where they reared 6 young children and where their grand children played. I remember getting "the call" from my sister-in-law, Ann and with a heavy heart she said "we lost everything". Laura and Guy (my in-laws) shared many loving memories with their children and grandchildren at "516 West Duke Circle". <br />
As I painted this portrait of their old home, many special memories of their loving home filled my heart. I especially remember that maw-maw would always let the grass get a little bit high at Easter so the grandchildren would have more fun finding their Easter eggs. This painting is about many loving family moments felt at "516 West Duke Circle".<br />
This weekend as we celebrated maw maw's 82nd birthday, she and paw paw braced themselves for another hurricane, Irene. This storm had a very different outcome than Floyd, Irene left only a few hours of clean-up and some inconvenient power outtage.<br />
Happy Birthday Maw-maw!<br />
